If you’re wondering whether you qualify to apply for residency commencing on Friday, September 29, 2023, you may meet the residency application requirements provided you have been working in a Tier 2 Green List or applicable sector agreement role on a temporary visa since September 29, 2021.

Green List Tier 2

  • Automotive Electricians
  • Diesel Motor Mechanics
  • Electricians
  • Gasfitters
  • Plumbers
  • Telecommunications Technician
  • Some Civil Machinery Operators
  • Building Associates
  • Dairy Farm Herd Managers and above
  • Teachers – Early Childhood, Primary, Intermediate, Secondary, Māori-medium, special needs, ESOL
  • Halal Slaughterer

Care workforce sector agreement

  • Care worker – Level 4

Transport sector agreement

  • Bus drivers
  • Licensed Ships Masters and Deck Hands
  • Class 4 Truck drivers and Class 5 Truck Drivers

What work visa should I be on to apply?
Holders of all temporary work visas including Critical Purpose Work Visas with work rights (CPVV) can apply if they have worked for 24 months in a Tier 2 Green List role or one of the eligible Sector Agreement Roles

Employment requirements
Your employer must be accredited at the time you apply for residency.
You must meet other employment requirements such as working at least 30 hours a week and being paid at the required wage for that occupation.

General requirements
You must be aged 55 or younger and meet English, health, and character requirements.
