Settlement support activities
Employers have additional responsibilities when recruiting for and employing migrant staff. Under the Accredited Employer policies, employer will be required to complete settlement support activities and to ensure that their migrant workers have all the information required to work and live in New Zealand. Employers must provide information to their new migrants about the local community and services, as well as work related matters, including:
- accommodation
- transportation options
- the cost of living
- how to access healthcare services
- Citizens Advice Bureau services
- relevant community groups
- how to obtain an IRD number from Inland Revenue
Employers must also provide sufficient time during paid work hours for AEWV holders to complete all of the Employment New Zealand’s online employee modules.
Greenstone Immigration will work with employers to ensure that they are providing the correct information and keeping appropriate records of their activities that will be required at Accredited Employer renewal stage.
POEA requirements
Even before some migrants are able to enter New Zealand, they will need to have completed exit clearance processes in their home countries. For instance, Filipino workers who are still in the Philippines and their employers will have to complete the requirements of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (“POEA”), now called the Department of Migrant Workers (“DMW”).
